1) Girls think too hard about guys. Guys don't think hard enough about girls. This leads to misunderstandings. There are differences in the way the two genders tend to think.
2) There is a definite line which charts the value of a human life in a nation's eyes versus the freedoms that endanger the same life. America's line is skewed towards the former, to our detriment.
a) Fun and weakness are often one in the same thing.
3) Religions should be judged by their ideology or creed and not by the actions of their adherents.
a) True Atheism connotes neither a lack of faith nor a lack of morality. True Atheism is not, in fact, a belief system - true Atheism is the disbelief in something which has no perceived reason or need to exist in the first place. True Atheists do not hate God - they simply do not believe in one. Science, in a way, replaces religion.
b) True Atheists possess, morally and ethically, less character than precisely half of the world. The opposite also applies.
4) The existence of evil is conclusive proof for the existence of good. There are people who embody qualities of each. It should not be assumed that the amount of good and evil in this world is equal.
a) The world is grey, not black and white.
b) Ideal character is an asymptote and can never truly be obtained.
5) Don't believe that your country is always right, but stand for your country, right or wrong. The country you stand for should not be the country as it is; it should be the country as a pure concept.
a) This principle is the best excuse for rebellion.
6) As Emerson said, "Speak what you think today in hard words and tomorrow speak what tomorrow thinks in hard words again, though it contradict every thing you said today." Don't be too proud to admit that you are wrong or change your mind. On the other hand, don't admit that you are wrong until you are sure that you are; don't stop arguing for your point of view until you are personally convinced that it is incorrect.
7) Laws can be legislated, but attitudes cannot. The role of law is not to dictate morality, because there is not one coherent definition of what 'moral' means. Accept that there will ALWAYS be those who act outside the law or for evil ends. Laws should be passed only to guide the average, good-willing person.
a) The police were established to deal with those to break the law; laws should not be passed to crush criminals, since criminals operate outside of the law anyway.
b) In the words of Voltaire, "The enemy of perfect is good enough." It is probably more beneficial to pass laws that will cover 90% of all situations, than to pass twice the number of laws that will cover 95% of all situations. The police can catch the people who break the laws in place, and the courts can punish the people who slip through the cracks.
8) Knowledge is what you know, intelligence is your ability to acquire more knowledge, and wisdom is how you use it. Curiosity is one's willingness to acquire knowledge, use intelligence, and buck wisdom from time to time.
9) Have faith in that uniquely human concept of hope. That, if anything, will save our nation and our world.
